MINSK (Molodnaia Pravda Bureau of Strategic Irony & Preventable Self-Owns, Dmitri reporting, with expression that official record describe as “tired beyond professional language”) — Supreme Leader Alexander Lukashenko this week deliver stern warning about reckless authoritarian militarism, dangerous war rhetoric, and irresponsible mobilization policy coming from government of Belarus.
Unfortunately, speech was delivered by Alexander Lukashenko while acting as government of Belarus.
According to recent statement, Lukashenko announced that Belarus is “preparing for war” and mobilizing military units in response to regional instability. Lukashenko then reportedly paused, looked at transcript, and became increasingly irritated by tone of man making announcement.
At this point, Yuri quietly informed Lukashenko that transcript was in fact his own official remarks given earlier that morning to Belarusian state media.
Witnesses report eleven-second silence. This is new bureau record. Previous record was eight seconds during Orbán election collapse.
Lukashenko then reportedly accuse transcript of being manipulated by NATO, CIA, Lithuanians, Brussels bureaucrats, and possibly interns. Yuri gently point to official state seal and signature at bottom of document. Lukashenko became quiet. Then more angry. Then poured another glass.
“This is problem with authoritarian ecosystem,” Lukashenko explained later, while drawing very small organizational chart on napkin. “Eventually everybody become toadie. Even leader. Especially leader. You spend thirty years surrounded by people telling you every paranoid instinct is genius, every grievance is strategy, every insecurity is civilization-level threat. Soon you wake up one morning threatening war against imaginary enemies and discover you are also imaginary enemy.”
Olga, who has now changed password three additional times this month, described speech as “man shadowboxing own reflection in dark window.” Olga also clarified that Belarusian military remains capable of many things, but prolonged modern offensive war against NATO alliance is not generally considered among them outside of Belarusian television studios and certain Telegram channels run by men named Sergei with profile picture of wolf.
There is particular tragedy in watching aging strongmen speak themselves into corners they cannot escape from. Every speech must sound tougher than last speech. Every enemy must become larger. Every mobilization more urgent. Every criticism becomes betrayal. Eventually rhetoric itself become prison.
Lukashenko knows this professionally. He helped build this architecture. Now he lives inside it. And on certain evenings, usually after third glass, he appears dimly aware that machine he created no longer distinguish between real threat and performance of threat.
“This is loneliness of autocrat,” Lukashenko said quietly, staring at portrait that was recently re-hung. “Nobody can tell you that you sound ridiculous. Not honestly. Not safely. Not after enough years. So eventually you must discover it yourself, halfway through speech, while threatening war you cannot afford, against enemies who are mostly tired of listening.”
WHEN YOU PERFORM PROPAGANDA LONG ENOUGH,
EVENTUALLY YOU BECOME AUDIENCE TOO.
ФАКС ВКЛЮЧЕН.
NOBODY CALL.
