“Never attribute to malevolence what is merely due to incompetence.” - Arthur C. Clarke, 3001: The Final Odyssey

The news about Tulsi Gabbard firing top brass at the National Intelligence Council is making waves, but honestly, it’s just the latest mess in a long line of security screw-ups coming out of the Trump administration. What’s really wild is how Pete Hegseth, the Secretary of Defense, keeps getting away with absolutely reckless OPSEC. Remember that time he and his crew shared classified military plans in a damn Signal group chat that accidentally included a journalist? That’s not just a facepalm moment-it’s downright dangerous, and it puts real people at risk.

What pisses me off most is how this kind of carelessness is just becoming normal at the top. Hegseth was literally talking about secret strikes in Yemen-timing, aircraft, the whole deal-in a chat that wasn’t even secure. And when it blew up, the administration just shrugged it off. Trump even defended Hegseth, blaming “disgruntled employees” instead of admitting that his own people can’t keep their mouths shut. If a junior analyst pulled this shit, they’d be out on their ass in a heartbeat. But apparently, if you’re in the inner circle, the rules don’t apply.

Then there’s the whole intelligence community purge. Firing experienced pros like Mike Collins and Maria Langan-Riekhof isn’t about “fixing” anything-it’s about getting rid of anyone who won’t kiss the ring or play along with whatever political story is trending that week. These folks got axed right after putting out an assessment that didn’t fit the administration’s narrative. So now the message is: screw up OPSEC all you want if you’re loyal, but god forbid you do your actual job and speak the truth.

This shit is dangerous. When the people at the top don’t take security seriously and only care about loyalty, it screws over everyone-especially the folks actually doing the work on the ground. It kills trust, makes us look like idiots to our allies, and sets us up for intelligence disasters. If Trump and his crew really gave a damn about national security, they’d start holding their own people accountable instead of letting them run wild with America’s secrets. But right now, it’s just a clown show, and we’re all going to pay the price.
