Call to Action: Your military needs protection from sloppy OPSEC practices

I'd like to ask you guys to take a few moments and read this sample letter I've put together. President Trump and SECDEF Hegseth are disregarding OPSEC at an alarming rate, and not only does it puts our troops in unnecessary danger, it puts our entire nation at risk. Yesterday, the president announced the deployment of two likely Ohio class submarines. This type of announcement is highly irregular and even dangerous. Please let Congress know this is unacceptable!
Subject Line: Serious National Security Concern – Urge Congress to Act on OPSEC Violations
Dear [Representative/Senator] [Last Name],
I am writing to you as a [concerned citizen / veteran / activist / parent / community member] who cares deeply about the safety of our service members and our national security.
Recent public statements by the President regarding the deployment of U.S. submarines—a move likely involving strategic military assets—raise serious concerns about how sensitive information is being handled at the highest levels of government. Even if such information has been cleared for release, publicizing these actions provides valuable cues to foreign adversaries and risks compromising military missions.
Unfortunately, this appears to be part of a broader pattern. The current Secretary of Defense has also exhibited questionable judgment regarding operational security (OPSEC), further eroding confidence in the protocols that safeguard our armed forces.
I urge you, as my elected representative, to investigate these disclosures and advocate for stronger controls on how sensitive military information is communicated. Congress must ensure that these lapses do not become normalized and that the effectiveness and safety of our troops are not compromised for political purposes.
OPSEC is not optional—it is essential for protecting those who serve and for maintaining our national security.
Sincerely,
[Your Name or “A Concerned Citizen”]
[Your City/State or “Your Constituent”]
